Labor to Labor Canvassing for a Fair Budget

Governor Malloy’s proposed budget relies heavily on sacrifices from working and middle class families including deep public service cuts, significant reductions in municipal aid and more than $1.5 billion in concessions from state employees. In order to build support for a fair budget that is not balanced on the backs of working families and increase the appetite for a meaningful and progressive revenue package, the Connecticut AFL-CIO is organizing labor to labor canvassing in two key districts.

State Senator John Fonfara and State Representative Jason Rojas co-chair the powerful Finance Committee. This committee makes decisions about how to fund public services and what new revenues will be included in our next budget. Both Sen. Fonfara & Rep. Rojas need to hear from you about the priorities of working families.

East Hartford and Manchester Canvass
Represented by Rep. Jason Rojas
Date: Thursday, April 6th
Time: 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Location: IBEW Local 42, 379 Wetherell Street, Manchester

Hartford and Wethersfield Canvass
Represented by Senator John Fonfara
Date: Saturday, April 8
Time: 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Location: Connecticut AFL-CIO, 56 Town Line Road, Rocky Hill

Canvassers will be asking our members to make a phone call and write a post card to their legislators. Sen. Fonfara & Rep. Rojas need to hear from working people that we need a fair, commonsense approach to balancing our budget that protects public services by raising revenues.

Training and scripts provided to volunteer canvassers. For more information, please contact Peggy Buchanan at 860-571-6191 x229.
