UHP Represents at CT AFL-CIO Convention

UHP sent seven delegates to the 2017 CT AFL-CIO Convention, Oct. 4-6 at Foxwoods.

Highlights:

  • Nomination and election of our Jean Morningstar as a CT AFL-CIO Trustee.
  • Passage of a resolution to do away with the term "nonessential state employee," brought to the floor by our Chris DeFrancesco (video on Facebook) and passed by a resounding voice vote on the convention floor. (PDF icon 171006_nonessential_resolution_20171006.pdf)
  • Visit from State Rep. Robyn Porter, State Sen. Gary Winfield, and State Rep. Mike Winkler, who impressed upon the delegates the importance of contacting our elected officials.
  • Visit from De Smith, executive director of the NFL Players Association, who had some enlightening remarks on players demonstrating during the National Anthem (shared on Facebook).
  • Visit from U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who accepted the CT AFL-CIO's Political Courage Award.
