Marsha M. Murray, MS – Biography
Hello, I’m Marsha Murray, and I am running for Vice President of Tier 1 Salaried Employees. I have dedicated nearly two decades to UConn Health. Currently, I am a Research Associate with a Master of Science degree in Research, Statistics, and Measurement. Throughout my time here, I have held several positions while being an active and engaged member of University Health Professionals (UHP) Local 3837. My journey in the union began over 10 years ago when I connected with Shawn Brown, who mentored me on union organizing and labor rights. I proudly serve our union in various capacities, including Union Representative, Steward, and as an active member of the Scholarship, Social, Finance, and Communications Committees. I also hold the position of Recording Secretary for the AFT CT Black Caucus and have represented our union at numerous conferences and conventions. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to advocating for the rights of our members.
If elected as Vice President of Tier 1 Salaried Employees, my goals include strengthening the Union Representative Assembly and developing strategies that protect the rights of our members. My experience in the union, combined with my professional background in research, public health, health equity, leadership, community organizing, and program development has equipped me with the skills necessary to advocate effectively and help shape strategies that benefit our membership.
I currently work in the Public Health Sciences’ Center for Prevention Evaluation and Statistics, focusing on project evaluation for reducing drug and opioid overdose-related deaths statewide. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Tony, and our two sons, Jaxon and Jace, while curating responsive community experiences.
In closing, I humbly ask for your vote so that, together we can build a stronger union for all.
