Election Day Silver Lining

We wanted to take some time to recognize and celebrate the amazing work organized labor has done this election. While the outcome at the national level is not what we hoped and fought for, it does not take away from the amazing amount of work you all put in during these elections. We made a difference in Connecticut.

Labor 2024 (Labor walks, phone calling, and postcard writing) knocked on more than 50,000 doors and made 13,000 phone calls.

AFT CT completed 473 volunteer shifts. We surpassed our 1% goal by over 150 shifts. Thank you all who volunteered!

AFT CT Mailings

  • 3,600 “persuasion” pieces to 10 priority races
  • 20,100 get out the vote pieces
  • 8,100 handwritten postcards to mailers

Our endorsed federal and state candidates had an 81% win rate -- 39 of them were union or former members (87% win rate), and 8 were AFT CT members (100% win rate).

The results in CT bucked national trends; Democrats now have a super majority in both the Senate (25-11) and the House (101-50). This means there is a veto-proof majority.
