We recently announced that UHP would be offering a member organizing training program.
We are looking for 10-15 members who are interested or willing to help us organize our union brothers and sisters to help in our fight to preserve our collective voice, and ensure that we have a seat at the table to negotiate our wages, hours and compensation.
Many people before us fought for these rights. Now it's our job to protect them and ensure we preserve these rights and our children have a voice moving forward.
This will not add to your daily work hours. You will be provided with union release time if you are scheduled to work on the days and times of the classes—instead of reporting to work you would come to the training as if you were at work; you will still receive your full salary for attending the training.
We currently have three members who have committed to participate in the training (Jean Castagno, Chris DeFrancesco, and Lauren Gangaram) and I hope after receiving this email you too will consider this opportunity to become a more active member.
The schedule for the training is as follows:
- Monday, May 21, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (breakfast and lunch provided)
- Tuesday, May 22, 2 to 4 p.m.
- Thursday, May 24, 8 a.m. to noon (breakfast provided)
- Tuesday, May 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (breakfast and lunch provided)
- Thursday, May 31, 1 to 3 p.m. (lunch provided)
I look forward to hearing that you are interested. We need your help—11 UHP officers cannot do it alone. Please let me know by Thursday, May 10, if we can count on you.
We are strongest when we stand together.
In solidarity,
Ivonne Hamm
UHP First Vice President
