Election ’26: Bill Garrity

My name is Bill Garrity, I have worked at UConn Health for 31 years, 16 years as an Oncology nurse, 5 years as an emergency room nurse, and since 2016 I have served as the President of University Health Professionals. I’ve been proud to lead UHP for the past 10 years. I’ve grown our field of influence over the years, at AFT Connecticut, the Connecticut AFL-CIO and at SEBAC (State Employee Bargaining Agent Coalition). I listened, I learned, and have earned leadership positions in each of those affiliates.

I sit on every committee at UHP, I am on the CT AFT-CIO Executive Committee, I am the divisional Vice President for Healthcare at AFT Connecticut, and I serve on the AFT National Program and Policy Council for Public Employees. I have a seat at the SEBAC table and sit as the SEBAC Grievance Chair.

I led the UConn Health Labor Coalition Privatization fight in 2018.

I led the fight after COVID-19, ensuring all employees in the main building were considered high-risk and received appropriate compensation.

I have testified at the state Capitol multiple times on a varied set of issues, including safety, staffing, funding and privatization of UConn Health. I’ve had discussions with the governor on multiple occasions, and had meetings with the chairs of the Healthcare, Higher Ed., Labor, and Appropriations committees.

I have led UHP during one of our most prosperous periods ever: 2018-2024 — 6 years, 6 steps, 6 raises, a total 34% wage increase. WE are not done yet. WE are so close at SEBAC, I expect to be able to say it will be 9 consecutive years of steps and raises by the end of the month.

Now is not the time to change. Let’s keep moving forward together.

Please give me your vote.

Re-elect Bill Garrity.
