My name is Dawn Thomas, and I’m running for re-election as Vice President for Political Activities. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote.
I have been a proud member of UHP since 2003, and I quickly became actively involved in our union. I’m an Information Technology Manager at UConn Health, working with departments across the organization to improve systems and strengthen integration that supports our work and services.
I’ve served as VP for Political Activities since 2020. While I have always been deeply involved in the political and legislative work of our union, this role has given me an even greater opportunity to advocate, lead, and take meaningful action on behalf of our members.
The VP for Political Activities is a unique role within UHP. This position works directly with the AFT Connecticut Legislative and Political Activities Committee (LPAC), representing UHP alongside other unions statewide. Together, we fight for legislative priorities and lobby for issues affecting working people at the local, state, and national levels, while interviewing and endorsing candidates each election cycle.
Decisions made in the Connecticut legislature directly affect us as union members, workers, and families. Health care, UConn Health, and higher education are often impacted by legislation and budget decisions. Through AFT LPAC, we support policies that protect our workplace, strengthen our union, and benefit our communities.
I previously served 10 years as VP for Membership Activities and have been active on several committees, including Steward, Union Representative, Negotiations, Finance, and Elections. I’ve been a UHP delegate to AFT Connecticut, the CT AFL-CIO convention, and AFT National conferences.
UHP’s strength lies in our diversity and unity. We are strongest when we stand together and move forward.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I hope I can continue earning your trust and your vote.
In solidarity,
Dawn Thomas
