Election ’26: Shawn Brown

With 16 years of dedicated service to UHP, I am proud to announce my candidacy for President of our union. Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to protecting our members, strengthening our collective voice, and ensuring that UHP continues to stand as a respected and powerful advocate for its members.

I have been the First Vice President of Collective Bargaining for four years, representing members in grievances, defending our contract, and representing UHP at the local, state, and national levels. My involvement in UHP has spanned nearly every level of union service. As Vice President for Membership Activities, I served as Chair of the Social and Scholarship Committees, working to engage members and support opportunities that directly benefit our membership and their families. I serve as a Union Representative and Union Steward, advocating for members on the front lines and ensuring their rights are protected and voices are heard.

Currently, I serve as Chair of the Negotiations Team, where I am actively working to secure a fair contract while maintaining and/or improving the benefits we currently have. I am also a member of all UHP committees, ensuring collaboration, transparency, and accountability across union leadership. Beyond UHP, I serve as the Secretary Treasurer of AFT Connecticut and proudly represent our union as a delegate to AFT Connecticut, AFT National, and AFL-CIO conventions and conferences, building strong relationships and bringing valuable insight back to our local.

My goal as President is clear: to maintain a strong, unified union and to bring respect back to both our membership and UHP as a whole. I believe in leadership that listens, fights, and delivers, and I would appreciate the membership’s continued support and vote for me as President.
