The response of union members to Monday morning's action alert to demand the governor veto Republican lawmakers' cruel and damaging state budget has been overwhelming. Hundreds have sent messages urging he reject a toxic, anti-worker package that imposes an occupational tax on teachers, guts public higher education and rolls-back collective bargaining rights. Many have also asked what more can we do as a movement — and what to expect once budget talks between the governor and legislative leaders resume. That's why we've scheduled a tele-town hall this weekend to plan our next steps and answer your questions: WHEN: Sunday, September 24 from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. WHERE: participate by telephone; you will provide a number to be called back on when you sign-up online. HOW: Click here to RSVP in advance to join us (participation is restricted to members in good standing of AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions). Randi Weingarten, our AFT national president, will join us to share how support and resources are being marshaled to shore up our fight for fairness here in Connecticut. In the meantime, we need to keep up the pressure on the governor to veto this budget, which is balanced on the backs of working people like you. Click here to send a message urging Governor Malloy stick to his pledge to reject this toxic package. We hope you can join us by phone Sunday night for our tele-town hall where we'll plan our next steps together. In solidarity, Ed Leavy Secretary-Treasurer, AFT Connecticut Jean Morningstar First Vice President, AFT Connecticut John Brady, RN Executive Vice President, AFT Connecticut Jan Hochadel President, AFT Connecticut |
