Fighting Privatization and Pension Changes

FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 2021—Despite short notice, several UHP members stepped up and made their voices heard by our elected officials. Diane Morgan, Matt Winters, Stephanie Rauch, and Sara Olsen submitted written testimony. In addition, the following members signed up to testify via Zoom:

VP Comms Chris DeFrancesco testified before the Appropriations Committee on Senate Bill 134, AN ACT REQUIRING THE COMPTROLLER TO FUND THE UNFUNDED PENSION LIABILITY PORTION OF FRINGE BENEFIT COSTS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT HEALTH CENTER.

Later, President Bill Garrity testified on both SB 134 and House Bill 5209, AN ACT EXCLUDING OVERTIME PAY AND LEGISLATIVE MILEAGE ALLOWANCES FROM THE CALCULATION OF STATE PENSIONS.

Then, Bill went before the Government Administration and Elections Committee to speak in favor of Senate Bill 1076, AN ACT CONCERNING PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS AND PRIVATIZATION OF STATE SERVICES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT HEALTH CENTER.

Thank you to Bill and Chris, and to those members who submitted written testimony and have been in touch with their own elected officials!
