From Sept. 10-17, 11 members took part in an AFT mobilization blitz, a campaign to engage with members and connect with those who have not signed cards. We asked them to share their thoughts on the experience.

Participating in the organizing blitz was such a wonderful experience personally and very inspiring.
It was great to set up in different work areas to see our members and also to go door knocking to their homes. What a great way to make a connection to our members on an individual basis. We got to hear their concerns that they may have otherwise not brought forward. Big or small the issues our members are facing are important and should be heard.
While the majority of our members are signed card holders, we do have some who are not. So it was great to make a connection with them, explain the importance of being a signed member of UHP and get their card signed.
I would love to see an annual campaign and have many more members get involved reaching out to other members. We discovered so many of our members lived within the same neighborhoods. While many of our members don’t want to be involved on a daily basis with union work, having an annual campaign would give folks an opportunity to make a difference in our union.

I think the biggest thing I got out of is we all see our work life in a bubble. No one considers what other jobs are like in the health center because we are focused on where we work and what does or doesn’t work for us. Listening to coworkers from University Tower and hearing what they go through and asking me about my work life was an eye opener for all.
