What’s the story with the public-private partnership? Are they selling us off? Are we being taken over?

More importantly, what can we do about it?

As you may know, the seven unions representing UConn Health employees have formed the UConn Health Labor Coalition. The idea is to harness the collective strength and voice of all our bargaining units. To effectively do this, we need members to be vocal and visible as together we rally behind the idea that we want to keep UConn Health a public hospital for the public good.

Here are two opportunities to do this in the coming days:

  1. Tell your lawmakers why they should oppose efforts to privatize UConn Health. Sign up for one of the upcoming Lobby Days at the state Capitol. Share your story. Make sure they know you’re paying attention and you vote.

  2. Make time to join Wednesday table this week (May 8 in the main building cafeteria, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.). All the unions will be there and when you come too it will be a show of strength that will send a powerful message to UConn Health leadership, our elected officials, and the public (including the patients many of us serve). We’ll be taking photos and sharing on social media, and exchanging ideas on how we can harness the power of our collective voice.

The next few weeks of the legislative session may turn out to be critical for the future of UConn Health as we know it. Now is the time to get involved! We can’t afford to risk giving decision makers and influencers the impression that we don’t care enough about our institution to stand up for its future.

Thank you, and we’ll see you and your coworkers Wednesday!
