On April 28, the unions of the AFL-CIO will observe Workers Memorial Day to remember those who have suffered and died on the job, and to renew the fight for safe jobs.

More than 50 years ago, the Occupational Safety and Health Act went into effect, promising every worker the right to a safe job. The law was won because of the tireless efforts of the labor movement, which organized for safer working conditions and demanded action from the government to protect working people. Since then, unions and our allies have fought hard to make that promise a reality.

Date/Time: Friday, April 28, at noon
Location: Workers Memorial in Bushnell Park, Hartford (map)
Questions: Reach us at ctafl-cio@ctaflcio.org or 860-571-6191
Rain or shine

Traditionally, we have asked our affiliates to purchase wreaths for the ceremony. While we will have a couple of wreaths again, the Health & Safety Committee is instead asking affiliates to please consider making a donation to support The Hundred Club of Connecticut.

The Hundred Club is a non-profit organization that is committed to the task of easing the financial burdens of the surviving spouse and children of police, fire fighters (volunteer and career), and correction officers who have given their lives in the performance of their duties.

If your union is interested in contributing, please send a check to the Connecticut AFL-CIO, 56 Town Line Rd, Rocky Hill, CT 06067. Please note the donation for The Hundred Club. We will then cut one large check to the organization on behalf of all of the contributing unions.

Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you on April 28.

In solidarity,

Connecticut AFL-CIO Health & Safety Committee
